HomeGround Real Estate Canberra was launched in 2019 as a social enterprise of CHC Australia. We are a not-for-profit organisation, but we operate like any other real estate property management agency, offering a personalised and tailored service, at highly competitive fees. What makes us unique is that we are the only licensed real estate agency in Canberra through which landlords can access additional tax incentives in return for supporting rental affordability.

To celebrate our birthday and bring awareness to the affordable rent scheme, between the 15th of April and the 15th of May 2022 we will give $100.00 Westfield Gift Cards for every property referred and listed through the affordable scheme.

Before referring anyone, make sure to get consent for us to contact them.

We follow the Privacy Act 2014. All referrals which the pointed landlord is not expecting to be contacted will be disqualified for the gift card.

Media Release: Land Tax Exemption

Land tax exemption legislation unlocks innovative channel to address Canberra’s rental affordability challenge.

CHC applauds the Legislative Assembly’s passage last week of amendments to the Land Tax Act, that provide for a land tax exemption for owners of residential investment properties that are managed through a registered community housing provider. The legislation is slated to take effect from next Monday 1st April 2019, with a maximum of 100 properties to be eligible for the land tax exemption during an initial pilot period ending 30 June 2021. The targeted tenants are families that do not qualify for public housing, and which pay a significant proportion of their income in the private rental market. Tenant income must be in the bottom two income quintiles (<$100,000 p.a. combined household income) and properties must be rented at a rate that is a 25% reduction of market rent. Canberra is the most expensive city in Australia in which to rent a house, and second most expensive in which to rent a unit, leaving half of lower income households in the private rental market in a state of housing stress

The Launch of HGREC has been 12 months in the planning since receiving seed funding from The ACT Government. Chief Deputy Minister Yvette Berry MLA helped CHC CEO Andrew Hannan officiate proceedings.
